The Bookies is another great indie children’s bookstore in Denver. It’s been a part of the community for over 45 years. They have books for young adults and little ones, toys, games, craft kits and educational materials as well as plenty of adult titles and a playhouse. The store also hosts events like its popular Storytime held every Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. where actor Susie Leiser brings children’s tales to life.

We're one of Denver's gems! Read about us and seven other local stores.
"Some of the best bookstores come in nondescript packages — don’t let The Bookies’ lack of curb appeal stop you from exploring this magical emporium of books for children of all ages. Have a middle-grade reader who can’t get enough historical fiction? There’s a section for that. A kindergartner hungry for picture books about Australia? Yep, that too. A teenage sci-fi lover? You’re covered. Born out of Sue Lubeck’s Denver basement more than 40 years ago and now in a Glendale strip mall, the packed shop offers standing 10-15 percent discounts, too. "

There is some quality reading material for parents, focusing on contemporary and classic writings, but the comprehensive selection for children is the main reason why this bookstore is one of the best in Colorado. The Bookies also offers discounts regularly and works with local schools to craft reading lists for students of all levels."
